Offering opportunities for growth to those people
looking for a new career, job or work in the South
Pacific.
Staff Shortages
Many countries now have shortages of educated and skilled workers. This
shortfall underpins other challenges such as growth cycles, staff movements
and retirements. External pressures take their toll as well, including keeping
up with contract time-lines and expectations.
Preferred Status for Immigrants
Some Countries have further defined these resource shortages with a
preferred status for migrants where they can fulfill some vacancy positions.
This determination of specific positions elevates migrating people with the
correct levels of education, experience and skills to be able to settle in those
countries.
New Zealand is one of those nations with a fast growing need for new
employees. To that countries credit, it has openly designed it's immigration
policy to welcome applications from immigrants originating from South Pacific
Island Nations.
Australia is carefully considering the same style of immigration policy, by
extending to South Pacific island nations the opportunity for it's people to apply
for some positions.
Pacific Island Nations
It can be seen clearly that many Pacific island nations are able to provide such
a resource, as they often have a high number of young, well-educated and
skilled people amongst their population. Another bonus is that English is
usually the second language of most pacific islanders, and is generally well
spoken and written.
Resource Pool
For instance, Tonga has a high rate of unemployment, with the bulk of these
25 years and under. Many young persons work in jobs for little monetary
reward, their real return is the training input they receive coupled with the hope
that one day they will have a chance to get paid employment. As these persons
are generally well educated, they provide a huge resource for the
replenishment of older workers who leave the country for well deserved
recruitment opportunities. In turn, these new migrants have so much to offer
due to being experienced and skilled in their own work. Even so, they in turn
also become even more trained, working in their new land.
This scenario is very similar for many other South Pacific Island
nations, with a large number of young people looking for work.
